Schyler Vargas (he/him)
Singer Denver, Colorado Schyler Vargas, a Mexican-American baritone most recently performed with The Glimmerglass Festival as Marchese in La traviata and Frank in Show Boat, and covered Beaumarchais in Corgliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles with the Châteaux de Versailles Spectacles. Schyler has been seen in The Pirates of Penzance as Samuel with Dayton Opera, in West Side Story with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, The Atlanta Opera, and The Glimmerglass Festival as Diesel and Chino. His concert credits include the baritone soloist for Orff’s Carmina Burana and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle. Prioritizing new operas in his career, he has worked with Cincinnati Opera’s Opera Fusion, workshopping new works including Rufus Wainwright’s Hadrian and Tobias Picker’s Awakenings, as well as Nicholas Benavides’ Gilberto where he sang the title role at The Glimmerglass Festival. Notable operatic roles include: Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro and Eisenstien in Die Fledermaus. He has participated in various competitions throughout the United States with notable awards including: Rocky Mountain District Winner in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, 2nd and Audience Favorite in the Harold Haugh Light Opera Competition, and 2nd at the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Aria Competition.
